Estate Sale vs. Garage Sale

First off,  let's define the two.  Estate sales are expected to be held professionally, by a company or Dealer. They have higher prices and very seldom haggle in the first day. Some refer to this type of sale as a Tag Sale. Typically, the entire contents of the house is being liquidated.  Then there is the occasional "living estate sale". I personally am not a fan of this type of sale. The bedroom furniture and most of the kitchen and livingnroom are moving with the owner. This is not a true "estate sale". We call it a moving sale...

The Garage sale however, is anything and everything the owner wants to part with. There is usually a much lower price point unless they have been watching "American Pickers" or "The Antique Road Show". In that case, they want top dollar for the two wonderful items they are attached to, yet want to sell. This is when they talk about Ebay prices, not the sold ones... and you need to abort mission. Most garage sales are filled with clothing and toys, the occasional kitchen items and a few discarded end tables. The occasional sale where you can rack up and stack up, now these are a blast! Pyrex bowl sets for 20.00, the mid century modern coffee table for $10! You start snatching and grabbing all you can as fast as you can. You could almost fill a booth with the wonderful finds. Then comes the issue... to keep or sell? That is the easy part as life goes on. You may start out keeping a few things, selling the bulk. Then, after 20 years you realize you are on the border of being a hoarder. You start selling everything and some bn of your own collections. Space is made and peace if mind is restored.

In closing, after 22 years of junking, antiquing and doing estate sales... We have 22 booths in three malls in two towns. #possiblycrazy We are still going strong and going to sales. I know dealers that have retired from having a booth but still go out to sales, it gives them a little hope of finding a wonderful item, possibly a gift for someone and always a visit with fellow Junkers. Happy Junkin!
